Three things…

Last night I had a chance to hear a former and most memorable professor, Dr. Leonard Moore, speak for the first time in long time at a community coalition meeting titled “Obama’s In, Now What?”

He said three things that has really stuck with me today…

  • You have to be ready to embrace uncertainty.
  • What’s power without purpose? and
  • What’s success without substance?

Thought I’d share! Something to think about. Have you defined your now what?

No, I’m not crazy…

So getting my daily dose of relationship advice over at the Fly Guy Chronicles, we get a chance to break down the ultimate getting to know you question.

“So why is a pretty lady like you single?” or… “So, why you ain’t got a man?”

Funny thing is while some may wait to the first date… I get this question on the first meeting. Like in the club…

So very inappropriate. Because I know what you are really saying is… “Bitch is you really crazy?!” [Yeah, I really meet bad speaking ass dudes.] As if something has to be wrong with me.

My answer: Because I choose to be! Just that simple…

Could it be that many have tried and many have failed?

Seriously, what do they expect you me to say… “Well it’s because I’m a weedhead, that supports my habit by tricking in the late night hours and I’m running from Offer Rickey because I wrote few dozen hot checks! I’m gonna text 72 times in the next hour and if you don’t call me back I’m gonna paste nasty statuses on FB about you!”

So no, I’m not crazy. I’m single by choice. Consider yourself lucky if I say I’m single because I am quick to say I got a man… Force of habit. *shrugs*

When you think about it, it really is a silly ass question to ask someone. Taking the time to get to know a person will prove whether or not there is reason they are single. Good or bad. Plus, you’re not going to get the truth anyway…

It will be the last person that they dated fault. If they are crazy, you’ll see the signs. Well, let’s hope you do because these Jiggas and Joes are sneaky these days.

By the way… I remixed Ay Bey Bey’s song!

So if you loved it, then you shoulda put a ring on it… If you liked, then you shoulda acted like it!

Try This: GHD Flat Iron

Having a good flat iron (if you use them) is essential to keeping your hair healthy. Ceramic irons are great, but there are a million different brands and they are not all equal. The most popular being the CHI. When I discovered the CHI, it was like the heavens opened, a bright light shone down and angels sang “aaaaahhhhh!” It left my hair so straight, and so very silky. I mustered up the $130 to drop on it, and that hurt my heart because I am so very frugal. My CHI lasted a good 3 or 4 years before it went to hair tool heaven and I was starting to hear about other brands. So before I spent any more money I decided to weigh my options, plus I was hearing more complaints about the CHI breaking and snagging the hair.

Sooooo after much mental debate… online shopping… pricing… I decided to find the best deal on a GHD. The GHD ranges from $250-300 at Sephora but I’m an eBayer so I found a one for $76.  Total steal, however be forewarned, there are many fakes online. You have to have the hologram to know it’s a genuine product.

So I went to work to see just how good this iron was… A little background on my hair: I have relaxed hair, 2B, and I’m of mixed heritage (Black and Puerto Rican). I don’t have typical fine hair, but my hair strands are thin and I have a good layered cut that gives it body. I air dry my hair for the most part, I usually have to blow dry the roots at the crown though.

I use Biosilk Silk Therapy for frizz and shine as well. Once I flat iron my hair, that’s the last time I put any heat on it until I wash it again. One other tip is that these irons are very hot, so try not to iron on top of really oily hair or go over the section too many time as to not damage it.

So here is the final result after flat ironing my hair with the GHD.
